Cable Ampacity Calculator

Estimate the current carrying capacity of copper or aluminum power cables under different insulation, installation, temperature, grouping and soil conditions.

Cable Parameters

Installation Conditions

Air temperature around the installed cable.
Use the number of loaded circuits installed together.
2.5 K·m/W is used as a neutral reference value.
The calculator adjusts a reference ampacity using material, insulation, cable construction, installation, temperature, grouping and soil-condition correction factors.

Optional Load Check

Enter 0 if you only want the estimated cable ampacity.

Engineering Notice

This tool provides a preliminary current-carrying-capacity estimate. Final cable ampacity must be verified using the applicable project standard and the actual cable construction, installation arrangement, thermal environment, bonding system, armour or metallic sheath losses, soil conditions and other relevant engineering parameters.

Large MV and HV cables, heavily grouped circuits and critical underground installations should be evaluated using a complete thermal calculation based on actual project data.
