N2XSH Cable

N2XSH cable combines a copper conductor, screened XLPE insulation and a low-smoke, halogen-free sheath for fixed medium-voltage distribution. It is relevant to industrial feeders, substation connections and building power routes where smoke and combustion-gas requirements influence the cable specification.

XWA Power & Cable is a cable manufacturer in China serving international power projects. Contact XWA about N2XSH cable schedules, technical requirements and export quotations. The proposed construction and supply scope are confirmed against the project specification.

N2XSH Cable for Industrial and Building Power Routes

The LSZH sheath makes N2XSH relevant where smoke release and combustion-gas properties are specified alongside the electrical duty. It is not simply a different colour of PVC cable; the required fire-test performance belongs to the declared sheath and complete cable design.

  • Industrial distribution: fixed feeders between substations, switchgear and plant power systems where screened MV cable and defined fire behaviour are required.
  • Building supply: indoor cable routes with low-smoke and halogen-free requirements, subject to the applicable fire class and installation rules.
  • Protected external routes: ducts, trays and other routes only where the declared construction covers exposure, water conditions and mechanical protection.

An indoor-to-outdoor run can use one cable design only when that design satisfies both environments. UV resistance, direct-burial suitability, water blocking and tunnel acceptance are not established by the N2XSH name alone.

N2XSH 12/20 kV Reference Dimensions

Recommended Reference Data. The table describes one published single-core copper construction with a copper wire screen. These dimensions and masses are not XWA guaranteed values or a confirmed supply range. Final cable data follows the approved manufacturing specification.

1 x 500/355.540.02.152.06290

Each row is for 12/20 kV, maximum system voltage 24 kV. The screen section follows the slash; 1×240/25 has one 240 mm² phase conductor and a separate 25 mm² screen. Values from 6/10 or 18/30 kV designs are not interchangeable with this table.

No universal ampacity is assigned here. The current rating depends on circuit arrangement, screen bonding, surrounding temperature, soil or duct conditions and neighbouring heat sources. A project calculation and the approved cable construction are required; conductor area or sheath designation alone is insufficient.

N2XSH Project Support from XWA

XWA works from project drawings, BOQs and cable datasheets to define the proposed manufacturing scope. The factory overview introduces our cable production, inspection and export support.

Construction matched to the cable schedule

Conductor section, copper-screen area, voltage grade, insulation dimensions and sheath requirements are reviewed as one construction. The agreed datasheet defines the order; the reference sizes on this page are not a substitute for that approval.

Testing and documentation agreed with the order

The agreed inspection plan identifies routine tests and required records. Construction drawings, test reports and inspection documents can form part of the supply scope. Any special fire class or third-party approval must be supported by the corresponding evidence.

Export packing coordinated with cable lengths

Drum lengths, cable mass, handling limits and destination requirements inform the packing plan. Drum schedules, marking and shipping documents are agreed for the order, rather than inferred from conductor weight alone.

N2XSH, N2XSY and N2XS2Y

ModelOuter-sheath distinctionRelevant specification difference
N2XSHLow-smoke, halogen-free sheathFire-test performance and installation suitability must be defined for the exact construction.
N2XSY cablePVC sheathPVC and LSZH have different combustion-gas and material characteristics.
N2XS2Y cablePE sheathPE sheath protection does not by itself imply a flame-retardant, low-smoke construction.
N2XS(F)H / N2XS(FL)HHalogen-free sheath with additional water barriers(F) identifies longitudinal water blocking; (FL) additionally identifies a radial moisture barrier in the specified design.

The comparison concerns copper screened MV constructions. An aluminium-conductor NA2XSH design changes the phase-conductor material as well. Three-core N2XSEH places three screened phase cores inside a common sheath and needs its own dimensional and rating data.

The Two Diameters That Matter at a Termination

An MV termination interfaces with several surfaces, not just a nominal conductor size. The diameter over insulation sets one accessory interface; the complete cable diameter sets another at the outer entry or seal. A termination range and a cable gland range therefore refer to different dimensions.

In the selected 240/25 reference, the insulation diameter is 31 mm while the complete cable diameter is approximately 43 mm. Using 43 mm to select an insulation interface confuses those surfaces. Manufacturing tolerances and the accessory’s own specified limits remain part of the fit assessment.

The semiconductive insulation screen also has its own preparation method. Strippable and bonded screen designs require the appropriate preparation procedure and tools. A cutaway illustration does not establish which removal method applies to the supplied cable.

N2XSH Standards, Fire Performance and Installation Limits

IEC 60502-2 covers extruded-insulation MV power cables within its stated scope. HD 622 / DIN VDE 0276-622 is also used for established halogen-free MV designs. The technical offer identifies the applicable construction standard and test schedule; mentioning a standard is not a product certificate.

Smoke density, combustion-gas properties and flame spread are separate assessments. The official smoke-test description explains the scope of IEC 61034-2. Low smoke does not mean no smoke, and a flame-retardant result does not establish continued electrical operation during a fire. The specified CPR class or circuit-integrity requirement needs its own product evidence.

This unarmoured construction needs route-appropriate mechanical protection. The copper wire screen has electrical duties, not the impact protection of wire armour. Dedicated longitudinal or radial water barriers must be stated separately. Installation handling follows the supplied design; the MV cable bending radius and pulling tension guide explains the route constraints.

N2XSH Specifications and Quotation Questions

Can XWA review an N2XSH cable schedule for quotation?

XWA accepts cable schedules, BOQs and project specifications for cable enquiries. The requested voltage, conductor and screen sections, fire requirements, quantity and delivery destination define the review. Manufacturing feasibility and the final technical offer are confirmed for the proposed construction.

What affects the N2XSH cable price per metre?

Copper conductor and screen sections, voltage-specific insulation, sheath and fire requirements, testing scope, total production length and packing all influence the quotation. A price for another voltage or screen size is not a like-for-like comparison. Freight depends on the agreed delivery basis and destination.

Is N2XSH a fire-resistant cable?

Its low-smoke, halogen-free sheath addresses specified combustion behaviour. Flame-retardant or low-smoke performance does not establish continued circuit operation during a fire. Any required circuit-integrity rating or reaction-to-fire class needs evidence for the exact cable construction.

Can N2XH replace medium-voltage N2XSH?

A low-voltage N2XH cable is not a substitute for the screened medium-voltage design described here. N2XSH has voltage-specific insulation and electrical screens; sharing an XLPE insulation material and halogen-free sheath does not establish equal voltage capability.
