N2XS2Y Cable Construction

N2XS2Y is built around a stranded copper conductor with an extruded conductor screen, XLPE insulation and an insulation screen applied as part of the medium-voltage insulation system. A copper wire screen and counter helix provide the metallic screen path, followed by a polyethylene outer sheath.

The single-core construction is important. Current rating, screen bonding, induced sheath voltage, bending radius and termination design are evaluated differently from three-core MV cable. Where a tender requires a three-core screened cable, N2XSEY or another three-core designation may be the better match.

The copper screen section, commonly shown as the second number in a size such as 1 س 240/25 مم2, is selected according to earth-fault current and protection design. It is not decorative and must match the fault-current requirement of the system.

Applications for N2XS2Y Medium Voltage Cable

N2XS2Y cable is used in medium-voltage distribution networks where a screened single-core cable with PE sheath is accepted by the project specification. Common routes include transformer stations, switching stations, power plants, industrial feeders, renewable-energy collection networks and utility distribution circuits.

The cable can be installed indoors, outdoors, in ducts, in water and in ground routes when the installation design accounts for mechanical protection, pulling tension, نصف قطر الانحناء, route temperature and current rating. The PE sheath supports stronger mechanical and moisture-resistance positioning than a conventional PVC sheath.

The PE sheath is not normally treated as a flame-retardant sheath under flame-test definitions used for PVC-sheathed cable. For tunnels, public buildings or routes requiring flame-retardant or low-smoke halogen-free performance, another MV cable design may be required.

N2XS2Y vs N2XSY, NA2XS2Y and N2XS(ف)2Y

N2XS2Y and N2XSY share copper conductor, XLPE insulation and screened single-core MV cable logic, but the outer sheath differs. N2XSY uses PVC sheath; N2XS2Y uses PE sheath for routes where mechanical durability, water exposure or underground service is a stronger requirement.

NA2XS2Y is the aluminium-conductor companion to N2XS2Y. It can reduce conductor cost and weight, but conductor size, مقاومة, termination design and short-circuit performance are different from copper N2XS2Y.

N2XS(ف)2Y adds a longitudinal water-blocking construction detail. It should not be treated as identical to standard N2XS2Y unless the project specification requires the `(ف)` water-blocking layer and XWA confirms that construction.

N2XS2Y production documentation can include the approved datasheet, conductor resistance checks, voltage test records, partial-discharge test records, dimensional inspection, drum schedule, packing list and product photos. Type tests, flame-test evidence or third-party inspection are added only when required by the project and available for the exact construction.
