The main difference in NYY vs N2XH cable is that NYY uses PVC insulation and a PVC sheath, while N2XH normally combines XLPE insulation with a halogen-free sheath system. Both are used for fixed low-voltage power distribution, ancak bunlar otomatik olarak ikame değildir. NYY can suit conventional distribution routes where its PVC construction is permitted. N2XH becomes relevant where the specification requires low-smoke, halogen-free performance. That does not make every N2XH cable suitable for direct burial, exposed sunlight or a circuit that must keep operating during a fire. Elektrik görevi, fire requirements and route suitability still have to agree.
NYY vs N2XH: three changes behind the names
The comparison involves more than exchanging the outer jacket. Insulation changes from PVC to XLPE; the sheath changes from PVC to a halogen-free material; and the finished cable may have different thermal, mechanical and environmental characteristics. A matching voltage and conductor size do not cancel those differences.
| Karşılaştırma noktası | Yeni Yıl | N2XH |
|---|---|---|
| Typical fixed-installation rating | 0.6/1 kV | 0.6/1 kV |
| Yalıtım | PVC | XLPE |
| Dış kılıf | PVC | Halogen-free compound |
| Common maximum continuous conductor temperature | 70°C | 90°C |
| Main comparison advantage | Conventional PVC construction for permitted distribution routes | Halogen-free construction where the specified smoke and fire performance is established |
| What the designation does not establish alone | Any installation environment, fire class or current rating | Any installation environment, fire class or current rating |
The temperature figures describe common conductor operating limits, not ambient-air limits, cable ampacity or a guarantee for every offered variant. The applicable product datasheet controls the actual rating. Both cable families also need the correct conductor class, core arrangement and protective-conductor provision.
The NYY-J fixed-distribution cable includes a green/yellow protective core. A comparison with N2XH must retain that electrical function, not merely match the total number printed before the cross-section. The J/O distinction concerns protective-core identification; it is not a smoke or fire-performance rating.

Duman, flame spread and continued operation are different questions
N2XH is often considered because a building specification excludes halogenated cable materials. PVC contains chlorine; replacing PVC components with suitable halogen-free compounds addresses a different question from increasing the insulation temperature rating.
Four properties need to remain separate:
- Halogen acid gases: IEC 60754-1 concerns gases released when cable materials burn. Its public scope addresses material components, not a universal approval of an entire installation.
- Duman: smoke-density evaluation concerns visibility under defined burning conditions. A halogen-free description alone is not a numerical smoke result.
- Flame propagation: the relevant test addresses how flame spreads under specified conditions. IEC 60332-1-2 covers a single vertical specimen; performance in a group is a separate question.
- Circuit integrity: maintaining electrical operation during a fire requires evidence for that duty. Neither XLPE nor a low-smoke description proves it.
This distinction prevents a common substitution error: replacing NYY with ordinary N2XH and assuming an emergency circuit is now fire resistant. A low-smoke material requirement and a requirement to maintain power to safety equipment are different specifications.
Aynı şekilde, no single CPR reaction-to-fire class follows automatically from the N2XH designation. The declared performance belongs to a defined product and supporting evidence. The explanation of CPR classification covers that separate issue without turning the material comparison into a regional compliance guide.
BASEC’s discussion of independent assessment of material suitability makes the broader point: selecting a low-smoke material does not replace checking the other electrical, mechanical and environmental requirements. It is not evidence that a particular XWA model holds BASEC approval.
More temperature headroom does not mean a fixed increase in amps
The common 90°C conductor limit associated with XLPE can provide thermal headroom compared with a 70°C PVC-insulated construction. That is a useful difference, but it is not a universal percentage increase in current capacity.
Heat still has to leave the installed cable. Grouped circuits, a hot service space, thermal insulation around the route, soil conditions and the number of loaded cores can change the outcome. Terminals and connected equipment may also have a lower permissible operating temperature than the insulation.
Örneğin, two hypothetical four-core cables with the same copper area may have different tabulated ratings. Comparing one value for open air with another for a duct does not isolate the effect of NYY versus N2XH. A useful comparison keeps the installation method, ambient conditions and loading basis consistent. No ampacity figure is inferred here from the 70°C/90°C labels alone.

The route can rule out a simple substitution
The same electrical load can pass through a service corridor, an outdoor wall and an underground section. A material choice that addresses the first part does not automatically qualify the cable for the other two.
A protected indoor feeder
Where the project permits PVC and the NYY construction meets the circuit duty, a conventional PVC cable can remain appropriate. Where smoke and halogen requirements exclude that construction, the comparison shifts toward an evidenced halogen-free design. The N2XH halogen-free power cable is the relevant product family, but the particular fire class and installation limits still belong to the selected design.
An exposed outdoor section
Sunlight, hava durumu, ambient temperature and support conditions introduce additional requirements. A black sheath does not by itself prove UV suitability, and a halogen-free sheath is not automatically weatherproof. An outdoor replacement needs the environmental rating of the finished product; suitability cannot be inferred from the insulation acronym.
A buried or persistently wet section
Some NYY constructions are specified for underground routes under defined protection conditions. That does not mean an ordinary N2XH alternative can follow the same route unchanged. Direct-burial and water-exposure suitability must be established for the actual design.
A conduit can provide mechanical protection, but it can also collect water. Putting a cable inside a duct does not create a missing water-resistance rating. Benzer şekilde, the absence of armour is not, tek başına, proof that every unarmoured cable is prohibited underground; the cable specification and route protection have to be considered together.
When a substitution changes more than the cable
A genuine equivalent has to fit the circuit and the route, not just the product description. Different overall diameters can affect glands and containment. A different conductor class can affect termination compatibility. Different sheath behaviour can affect pulling and handling limits. Those are practical reasons not to copy accessories or installation instructions across from another cable family.
The price comparison also belongs to the complete arrangement. Changing a material specification may change cable cost, while additional protection or a changed route may change installation cost. There is no defensible fixed N2XH price premium without matched sizes, yapılar, quantities and supply conditions; no current price is implied here.
NYY is a conventional PVC option, not an inherently inferior cable. N2XH addresses a different material and fire-performance brief, not every possible installation condition. The useful result is a cable that satisfies all three requirements together: elektrik görevi, the stated fire performance and the actual route.
For a project-specific NYY/N2XH comparison, contact XWA with the cable designation, çekirdek düzenlemesi, cross-section and route requirements. The discussion can then stay focused on the construction rather than a generic claim that one material is always better.
